International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that 7 September 2022 marks the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, an awareness day organised by the United Nations Environment Programme; welcomes the awareness day in highlighting what it sees as the human health and climate cost of air pollution; considers that air pollution has a wide range of impacts on respiratory health, especially on children and young people; understands that Asthma + Lung UK Scotland polling shows that 78% of people polled back greater action on car idling outside schools, and supports charities and third sector bodies, such as Asthma + Lung UK Scotland, British Heart Foundation Scotland, Environmental Protection Scotland, Alzheimer Scotland and others, who it considers continue to highlight the health impacts of air pollution in Scotland.
