Junior Cop Initiative

The motion

That the Parliament notes the introduction of the Junior Cop initiative within the Aberdeen Donside Constituency; notes that the Junior Cop initiative allows pupils at participating schools the opportunity to carry out speed checks around their school area, whilst also allowing them to talk to road users and ask them a total of 12 questions; understands that the Junior Cop initiative was set up to help create positive relationships between the children and the police, particularly those who may have been in trouble with the police or children who may be anxious at the sight of blue lights; further understands that this initiative was first done in Peterhead and then trialled at schools within Aberdeen; notes that there are currently five schools within the north of the city who participate in the Junior Cop initiative on a regular basis, including four schools situated within the Aberdeen Donside Constituency: Muirfield School, Quarryhill School, West Park School, Manor Park School; commends Sergeant Terrance Brady and the wider team from Police Scotland involved in the running of the Junior Cop initiative, and further commends all pupils and staff from the schools who are currently participating in the initiative.
