Increase in Mileage Allowance for Social Workers and Social Care Staff

As an amendment to motion S6M-05829 in the name of Jackie Baillie (Increase in Mileage Allowance for Social Workers and Social Care Staff), leave out from "urges the Scottish Government" to end and insert "considers that the blame for this situation should be placed squarely with the UK Government, which it believes has the power to raise the mileage allowance, and further considers that the Scottish Government has no role in setting this allowance; believes that, while local authorities can uplift the allowance, this would be a ridiculous burden to place on them when, it considers, the UK Government has the full range of financial levers to make a difference, including reducing the VAT on fuel to make prices at the pump cheaper; supports the calls from the Scottish Government and many MSPs for the UK Government to immediately uplift the mileage allowance, and for the new Prime Minister to make the cost of living crisis, which it considers her government has allowed to spiral out of control, her main priority and to remove what it sees as this unjust financial pressure from health and social care staff who it considers were the backbone of Scotland during the COVID-19 pandemic."
