The motion

That the Parliament recognises the importance and positive impact of the International Day Of Sign Languages that takes place on 23 September 2022; understands that there are 70 million deaf people worldwide with more than 300 different sign languages; further understands that the UN General Assembly recognised the day to raise awareness of the importance of sign language in the full realisation of the human rights of people who are deaf; commends the work of the World Federation of the Deaf to raise awareness and promote the provision of learning sign language as a human right, and reflects on the progress that it believes has been made in Scotland, while reaffirming what it sees as the need to go further to promote sign language so that those barriers that remain, are broken down.
