The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the fourth annual International Scottish Gin Day (ISGD), which takes place on 1 October 2022; notes that ISGD was established by The Gin Cooperative and brings together Scotland’s Scottish Gin makers and brands, whose Scottish Gins are distilled, rectified or cold compounded in Scotland and a selection of global bars, retailers and gin drinkers, to celebrate the story of Scottish Gin; understands that ISGD involves a programme of events and collaborations with a number of international participants, including gin festivals and food and gin pairings, online meet the maker tastings and exclusive ISGD cocktails; acknowledges what it sees as the excellent work of The Gin Cooperative in promoting Scottish Gin, most notably what is understood to be the world’s largest dedicated Scottish Gin directory that provides individual gin profiles including tasting notes, key botanicals, suggested serve, year released and production information, and considers that with over 500 Scottish Gins currently being produced in Scotland, from some of the remotest locations in the country, to the rolling countryside and into the cities and towns, including the award-winning Ellis Gin in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, Scottish gin production is a country-wide success story, with a growing local and international demand for high-quality brands.
