Falls Awareness Week 2022
The motion
That the Parliament notes that the week commencing 19 September 2022 is Falls Awareness Week, which aims to encourage people to consider why falls might happen and what can be done to prevent them, in turn reducing the risk of falls among all age groups, and helping older adults live without fear of falling; understands that falls are the biggest cause of serious injury and accidents to older people; believes that there are a number of ways to reduce the risk, particularly by keeping moving and staying active, which can help strengthen muscles and maintain good balance, as well as looking after eyes, hearing and feet, managing any medication that may cause dizziness and checking the home for hazards; understands that a number of organisations and groups will be promoting this advice, including NHS Borders, and believes that anyone worried about the risk of falling should tell someone such as a GP or other health and social care professional, as they can help them to reduce the risk.
