Beat the Street Arrives in East Kilbride
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that Beat the Street will arrive in East Kilbride, a free interactive game that encourages people of all ages to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives and leave the car at home; understands that the game was devised by GP, Dr William Bird, to make exercise and physical activity fun and that participants are rewarded with points and prizes the further they walk or cycle, with the opportunity for the community to walk their way to a donation of £500 for Kilbryde Hospice; notes that beeping and flashing sensors, called Beat Boxes, are placed on lampposts around the area for the duration of the six-week game, and players travel between the contactless Beat Boxes scoring points as they go; further notes that it was previously played in the town in early 2020 when 12,066 signed up to take part and walked and cycled for more than 124,000 miles, and wishes all the participants good luck.
