The motion

That the Parliament commends the work of Pilton Community Health Project, which was established in 1984 as one of Scotland’s oldest community health initiatives; applauds the organisation for offering support and encouragement to residents in north Edinburgh and helping to re-connect communities to nature and physical activity; understands that the organisation’s Taking Steps to Better Health initiative adopts a social prescribing approach in order to support individuals who experience ill health and long-term health conditions or have complex social, emotional or practical needs; further understands that Pilton Community Health Project provides community-based advice, training and services to help residents reach better health, wellbeing and tackle loneliness by participating in accessible, safe and fun outdoor activities, exercise and events; notes that social prescribing is an approach which recognises the impact of social, environmental and economic factors on individuals’ health and wellbeing and prioritises holistic non-clinical interventions centred around individual needs; further notes that the project received funding from the City of Edinburgh Council, with support from Scotland’s walking charity, Paths for All, and wishes the project continued success in tackling poor mental and physical health, isolation or loneliness in communities.
