Celebrating Buses for Scottish Climate Week
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the Scottish Climate Week, taking place from 26 September to 2 October 2022, which aims to raise awareness of the global climate emergency and encourage climate action across Scotland; recognises what it sees as the role of buses in delivering climate action by offering green travel options, and making a significant contribution to the economy through the manufacturing of low and zero emission buses; considers that low and zero emission buses enable a fairer, low-carbon transport system, which helps to improve public health by reducing carbon emissions, air pollution and inequalities across our communities; notes what it sees as the benefits of bus prioritisation measures to make bus travel a more attractive alternative travel option, reduce travel times and help reduce congestion; highlights the electrification of the First Bus Glasgow Caledonia bus depot this year, which, it understands, make it the UK’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging hub; further highlights First Bus’s world-first hydrogen double-decker buses in Aberdeen, which reduce the city’s carbon footprint by saving 84 tonnes of carbon per year, per bus, and highlights the continued importance of what it sees as Scotland's world-leading example on tackling the climate crisis one year on from COP26.
