Protests in Iran

The motion

That the Parliament condemns the reported violent oppression of anti-government protestors in Iran after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini following her arrest and alleged beating by the so-called “morality police”; recognises the bravery of those fighting for what it considers basic human rights, many of them women, who are leading the protests by burning their hijabs and calling for the protection of women’s rights in Iran; supports the demand for the end of what it sees as the enforced veiling and daily oppression of women, and further condemns the reported violence from state forces, including the shooting, firing of tear gas and arrests of protesters, allegedly leading to the deaths of at least 45 and the injury of many others.
