Glasgow Founder of Educational Dekko Comics Wins National Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Rossie Stone, director of Glasgow-based Dekko Comics on winning the trophy for Amazing Artist at the national Dyslexia Awards; understands that his comics, which turn Key Stage 2 curriculum content into engaging comic strips, are helping thousands of youngsters to overcome motivational barriers to learning, including those with dyslexia and autism; notes that Dekko Comics aim is to make reading and learning accessible and enjoyable to all children, particularly those who are dyslexic to help them build confidence; acknowledges that Rossie Stone was diagnosed with dyslexia at primary school and struggled to read basic textbooks, finding English lessons difficult; notes that he excelled at art and in his mid-20s decided to use his talent and love of comics to start building his educational business; understands that, in April 2016, with more than £13,000 funding from a Kickstarter campaign, he officially launched Dekko Comics and just a few months later released the first two comic issues to the public, and acknowledges that the Dyslexia Awards showcase the diverse skills and strengths of dyslexic people and recognise those supporting them.
