Glasgow Shortlisted to Host Eurovision Song Contest 2023

That the Parliament regrets that Ukraine, as winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, is unable to host the contest in 2023 due to Russia's ongoing invasion; notes the joint announcement from the BBC and the EBU that Glasgow is one of the final two cities being considered to host the contest instead, in light of the United Kingdom coming second in the same 2022 contest; believes that Glasgow is the best place to host the event due to its cultural diversity and recognition by UNESCO as a city of music; understands that Glasgow featured as host venue in the successful Netflix film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga; considers that the OVO Hydro arena, with a capacity of 14,300, would be more than capable of hosting the contest; recognises that Glasgow has a proven track record of hosting significant international events, such as COP26 and the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and considers it has a track record of welcoming large scale television productions to the city, which support its strong television production industry; believes that by hosting such a large international event, it would bring a cultural, economic and tourist boom to the wider Glasgow region; supports Glasgow's bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, and wishes the city well in its endeavour.
