Mintlaw Academy Student Selected as a Finalist in Nationwide German Language Competition

That the Parliament celebrates Aimee Carroll’s participation in the German Language Competition 2022 held by the DAAD London and the Institute of Modern Languages Research (IMLR); congratulates her on her success in the competition thus far; notes that, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the DAAD London office, and in the context of the DAAD’s and the IMLR’s dedication to cultural understanding, this year’s competition is focused on the theme of coming together; understands that participants in the competition have been asked to write or speak about friendship across borders, or about initiatives across cultures, and that participants did so through a medium of their choice; acknowledges that a panel of German language professionals reviewed candidates’ submissions to select the top three entries from each of five candidate categories, including university students, students at universities’ language centres, school and sixth-form college students from 10 to 13 years, German native speakers, and other candidates; understands that the 15 submissions selected by the panel were presented at a “festival of language and togetherness” hosted at the German Embassy in London on 4 May 2022; acknowledges that Aimee is an S6 student at Mintlaw Academy and that she has studied German language since she was an S1 student; celebrates Aimee for being the only student in Scotland to have their entry selected by the panel; understands that the 15 finalist candidates will have the opportunity to present their entries at a final event to take place at the German Embassy in October 2022; commends Aimee for participating in the competition and wishes her good luck at the final event; understands that she was motivated for the opportunity to use her German language skills in a different way by writing poetry; notes that Aimee wants to pursue university plans of a joint degree programme in chemistry and German, and wishes Aimee every success in the years to come.
