Welcoming the MS Society’s Report, Reduced to Breaking Point

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes MS Society’s report, Reduced to Breaking Point, detailing the impact of the cost of living crisis on people living with MS; notes that the report found there were extra costs associated with living with MS in relation to utilities, transport, treatments and care; recognises that the report found that over a quarter of people with MS do not have enough money for food while one in four could not afford to keep their home warm; understands that, according to the report, the crisis has had an impact on the ability of individuals to manage their MS with 29% reporting that they have stopped or reduced spending on treatments or therapies; notes that the report identified difficulties in accessing flexible, well paid employment for people living with MS and that many found social security benefits payments too small and difficult to access, and believes that the Scottish and UK governments should accept the report's policy recommendations, including calls for further support packages to ameliorate the impact of the cost of living crisis, increase the rate of benefits, and change the eligibility criteria for benefits, such as Adult Disability Payment, to remove the "20-metre rule".
