Remembering Ian Hamilton
The motion
That the Parliament notes with sadness the passing of Ian Hamilton KC at the age of 97; recalls that, among Mr Hamilton’s many other achievements, was his active role in the recovery of Scotland’s Stone of Destiny from what it considers its long captivity in Westminster Abbey in 1950, a feat which involved him hiding in the abbey overnight; believes that this episode had an impact on revitalising public appreciation both of Scotland’s history and also of her democratic right to a political voice, at a time when both of these things were being overlooked, and extends its sympathy to Mr Hamilton’s family at this sad time.
