Aberdeen City Council’s Environmental Services win Green Workplace Award at Star Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen City Council’s Environmental Service Team, which recently won the Green Workplace award at the 2022 Star Awards; understands that the Environmental Services Team is encouraging, supporting and empowering communities to manage the local green spaces around them whilst also changing the eco behaviours not only of staff but also the citizens of Aberdeen; notes what it sees as the importance of green spaces, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when these spaces were needed most; understands that since February 2021, the Environmental Services Team at Aberdeen City Council have seen a 360% increase in the number of new community-run green spaces, with this being in addition to the 100 existing groups and 4125 individuals volunteering across the city to help manage green spaces during 2021-22; notes that the Green Workplace Award recognises people who have made a highly effective contribution to Aberdeen City Council’s Energy and Climate Change agenda; understands that the Star Awards is Aberdeen City Council’s annual awards ceremony to recognise the efforts of all staff irrespective of department or place of work; notes that 2022 marks the 10th anniversary of the Star Awards, with the theme of the night being Alice in Wonderland, and commends the Environmental Services Team as well as all other nominees for their continued hard work and dedication in making Aberdeen a greener city.
