The motion

That the Parliament applauds James Watson, who runs Kickback Martial Arts & Fitness gym in Port Glasgow, on launching free gym sessions to offer men a safe space to talk about their mental health; understands that the sessions will be held every Sunday between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm, and focus on weight lifting, with personal trainers on hand to provide support and a listening ear; further understands that James has undertaken Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) to learn more about suicide prevention and supporting people experiencing poor mental health; understands that James has previously volunteered with the Inverclyde Recovery Café, which supports people affected by addiction, and spent time working at HMP Greenock supporting prisoners preparing for the transition to life in the community; further understands that the idea came to James after he realised that men started opening up to each other while they were using the gym, despite not knowing each other previously; commends James’ commitment to the community, and wishes him all the best as he embarks on this new venture.
