Asda "Winter Warmer" Support for Pensioners and Community Groups

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Asda’s recent announcement of a range of new "winter warmer" initiatives to support customers and community groups struggling with the cost of living crisis; understands that these include an offer to everyone aged 60 and over to purchase soup, a roll and unlimited tea and coffees for £1 in any in-store Asda cafes, every day throughout November and December, which will run alongside the current "Kids Eat for £1" offer; notes that this will be accompanied by the "Community Cuppa" campaign in Asda cafes, which creates space for local groups, who may otherwise struggle to meet due to rising energy costs, to come together on weekdays in November and December from 2.00 to 6.00 pm, with all community group members receiving unlimited free tea or coffee whilst present; recognises that the Asda Foundation is also providing funding worth £500,000 to support community groups that are struggling with rising operating costs or increased demand for their services, with individual grants worth up to a maximum of £2,000 available and priority given to groups and charities that need financial help to cover increased energy costs or who want to use their facilities to create warm spaces for those who cannot afford to heat their homes, alongside all Asda Community Champions being given an increased monthly budget during October, November and December to increase the practical support they can offer to local good causes; believes that, whilst it is deeply troubling such measures are necessary, these initiatives will be a help to those struggling, and commends those businesses seeking to support their local communities.
