Clan Cancer Support Launches Fundraising Event
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the launch of Clan Cancer Support’s fundraising effort, The Big Hop Trail, a competition where artists submit their design ideas to decorate forty, two metre-tall hare sculptures, which will be auctioned in 2023 to raise money for the charity’s 40th anniversary; notes that the hare sculpture was chosen because hares are indigenous to the north east, navigate rough difficult terrain to survive and, most importantly, have exceptional hearing, a quality vital to the charity’s purpose; understands that the campaign is a collaborative effort with Wild in Art, a producer of public art events and which helped the charity to raise £324,000 in 2021 with their Light the North trail; notes that 100 local schools will also be involved by decorating smaller hare sculptures to accompany the larger hares along The Big Hop Trail; commends all those involved with organising the event, and wishes the best for all participants.
