Professor Sir Geoff Palmer Receives the Edinburgh Award 2022

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Professor Sir Geoff Palmer on being awarded the Edinburgh Award 2022; understands that this was awarded in recognition of his "ground-breaking contributions to academia, and his indefatigable defence of human rights in Edinburgh and beyond"; notes Sir Geoff’s role in the examination of the City of Edinburgh’s colonial past, as chair of the Edinburgh Slavery and Colonialism Legacy Review Group; echoes the words of the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, who has said that this review has "provided a firm foundation for Edinburgh’s future as a modern, conscious and considerate capital city"; thanks Sir Geoff for what it sees as his rigorous lifetime’s work in academia and activism, and wishes him for all the best for the future.
