Solidarity with Protestors in Iran
The motion
That Parliament stands with the Iranian Scottish Association in demanding an end to what it considers the deeply misogynistic political and legal system in Iran; condemns the reported violent oppression of anti-government protestors in the country, after the death of Mahsa Amini, aged 22, who was detained by the so-called "morality police" claiming that she had failed to adhere to strict hijab requirements; applauds what it sees as the bravery of protestors in Iran, most of them women, who have been at the forefront of demonstrations sweeping the country for more than two weeks, fighting for basic human rights; condemns the reported escalating violence and oppression, which it understands has led to dozens of other people killed in a crackdown by Iranian security forces, and joins with the Iranian people in their call for democracy and freedom.
