The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC), on hosting Scotland and the UK's first Bioeconomy Week; recognises what it sees as the importance of Scotland's bioeconomy industry, which creates materials using biological sources such as plants, microorganisms and organic waste, rather than with fossil fuels, in addressing climate change and achieving net zero; considers that the sector is an important economic contributor, and is forecast to be worth £1.2 billion and employ 4,000 people by 2025; believes that Scotland is a key destination for investing in the industry, as it is a place where entrepreneurs can take biotech ideas from conception to launch, and further believes it is an education destination for those seeking to study and find work in the sector, with a research base consistently ranked within the top three in the world.
