The motion

That the Parliament recognises the international campaign, 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, beginning on 25 November 2022, which is International Day Against Violence Against Women, and ending on 10 December 2022, which is Human Rights Day; understands that the theme for this year’s campaign is "UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls", which calls for global actions to increase awareness, galvanise advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations; believes that, while pervasive, gender-based violence is not inevitable, and it can and must be prevented; notes the view that stopping this violence starts with adopting comprehensive and inclusive approaches that tackle the root causes, transform harmful social norms, and empower women and girls, and further notes repeated calls for individual men, including those in the East Lothian constituency, to look inward at their own behaviour and to make the necessary changes that it considers can lead to the societal change required to bring an end to violence against women and girls in Scotland and beyond.
