Braes High School Pupils in Falkirk Launch Food Growing Project

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the pupils of Braes High School, in Falkirk, on the recent launch of their Polycurb project on 21 September 2022; understands that this project was first conceptualised in 2019 and informed by a plough-to-plate culture, which focuses on developing strong sustainable learning links for the pupils; notes that the launch of this event, which was delayed for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, allows for the hard work of pupils, staff and community partners to be celebrated; recognises what it sees as the important emphasis that this initiative places on the advantages of growing your own produce in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner, given the realities of the climate crisis and rising food costs globally; understands that the produce grown within the grounds of Braes High will be used at the school's breakfast club with plans going forward to create and distribute food boxes that are accompanied with recipe cards for those local families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis; understands that pupils will soon be able to study for a national certificate, "An introduction to Horticulture" at SCQF Level 4 when the school introduces the new SQA qualification as part of the curriculum; congratulates all involved with the development and launch of the Polycurb project at Braes High School, and wishes them all the best with their food boxes initiative and future harvests.
