Martin McGill, Condolences over Creeslough Disaster, County Donegal

The motion

That the Parliament expresses its deep sadness at the death of Martin McGill, aged 49, originally of Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, who tragically lost his life in the petrol station explosion at Creeslough, County Donegal, on 7 October 2022; celebrates the life of Mr McGill, who, it understands, was described at his funeral as a beautiful, gentle soul and a devoted son; understands that he moved to the small village of Creeslough from Scotland in 2001 to look after his parents and continued to care for his elderly mum after his father passed away; notes that Mr McGill, a passionate football fan, was a lifelong supporter of Celtic FC, which paid tribute to all the victims of the explosion by holding a period of silence before the Champions League tie against RB Leipzig on 11 October 2022; commends the efforts of local emergency services, rescuers and volunteers who assisted An Garda Siochana; extends its heartfelt sympathies to Mr McGill’s family, the families of the other nine people who died in the blast, and to those others who sustained injuries, and holds the community of Creeslough in its thoughts.
