Congratulating Fiona Dunlop Caring for over 150 Borders' War Graves

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the work of Fiona Dunlop in voluntarily taking care of more than 150 war graves in more than a dozen cemeteries across the Scottish Borders supported by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), with Ms Dunlop recently given a Spotlight Award for this work; understands that Ms Dunlop first become involved in this to give something back to the CWGC which has tended the burial sites of two of her relatives for many years, her great-uncle, Donald, who is buried at Langemark in Belgium having been killed in the early days of Passchendaele in 1917 and her grandmother's first cousin who was killed in the Iolaire disaster in 1919 and is buried at Ness on the Isle of Lewis; further understands that Ms Dunlop was also inspired by taking students on trips to the World War One battlefields in France and Belgium during her time as a teacher at Peebles High School; believes that such work plays an important role in keeping the memory of those fallen alive, and wishes Ms Dunlop the best of luck with her training to become a CWGC tour guide to enable her to share more of the stories of those buried in Peebles Cemetery.
