Anti-Slavery Day

The motion

That the Parliament notes that 18 October 2022 was Anti-Slavery Day; recognises that Anti-Slavery Day provided an opportunity to raise awareness of human trafficking and modern slavery; welcomes the campaign organised by The Salvation Army to raise awareness of this day and its aims; understands that it has supported thousands of survivors, through safe accommodation, outreach support and specialist services tailored to each individual, while also operating a 24/7, confidential referral helpline; congratulates The Salvation Army and other charitable organisations who promote this issue which, it understands, sadly, still plagues many areas around the globe today; welcomes the work of International Justice Mission (IJM) which, it believes, is the world's largest international anti-slavery organisation; notes its support for thousands of children between the ages of six and 18 who, it understands, live in slavery on Lake Volta, Ghana, working up to 18 hours a day in the fishing industry where, it considers many feel that, the only way out of slavery is to drown or be rescued; hopes that people from all over Scotland took part in this day of awareness, and sincerely wishes to see a future where slavery is no more.
