Tree Planted at Forth Valley Royal Hospital as Part of The Queen's Green Canopy

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news of a tree-planting in the grounds of Forth Valley Royal Hospital as part of an ongoing living tribute to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; understands that the planting in a grassed area at the front of the hospital by the Lord-Lieutenant of Stirling and Falkirk, Alan Simpson OBE, assisted by NHS Forth Valley’s chief executive, in addition to representatives from the Forth Valley NHS Retirement Fellowship and other members of staff, forms part of The Queens Green Canopy project, which has seen more than a million trees being given the opportunity to take root across the UK; acknowledges that the scheme was first conceived to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee but has now been extended to give people the opportunity to plant trees in memory of the late Queen and to take advantage of the full tree planting season, which begins in October 2022 and runs through to March 2023; notes that an Acer Crimson King, commonly known as Purple Norway Maple, was chosen because it provides myriad vibrant colours in three out of four seasons; sees the location as appropriate, as Her Majesty the Queen, accompanied by the HRH Duke of Edinburgh, officially opened Forth Valley Royal Hospital in 2011; acknowledges the Lord-Lieutenant’s reported suggestion that "this tree should be taken to represent the selfless values of service to others that we celebrated in our late monarch and witness every day throughout the health service", and believes that the project will not only assist with emissions reduction, habitat protection and summer cooling, but will also create a monument to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch across the entire region.
