The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Edinburgh International Book Festival on its 2022 programme of events; understands that this included performances, immersive experiences, exhibitions, a community meal, walking tours and a play that won The Scotsman’s Fringe First Award; further understands that the Festival welcomed 550 authors from 50 countries for over 600 events; understands that accessibility was considered a priority, with step-free access to all facilities, a hearing loop system in four venues, BSL being offered on-demand, and that there were 83 captioned events; notes that all school events were free, with every pupil who attended in-person receiving a free book, and that the Festival also created a schools’ transport fund; further notes that the Festival’s communities programme enabled authors to visit prisons, a homeless library and a children’s hospital; expresses its belief that the Edinburgh International Book Festival 2022 programme was a model of a level of accessibility and inclusion that should be encouraged across the events sector, and wishes them all the best for future years.
