Centred Report into the Factors Impacting on the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Highland Youth

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes highlands-based charity, Centred’s new report, An Exploration into the Factors Impacting on the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Highland Youth: Part 1; understands that the report found that 56% of participants, young people across the highlands, face significant stress, with causes listed including academic performance, managing finances, and their own mental health; further understands that 43% of respondents felt that their communities did not have adequate access to primary or secondary mental health services and that 58% indicated that they would leave their communities if the opportunity arose; understands that the charity felt that one of the most alarming figures was that 14% of respondents felt they had no one in their life who would listen to them; believes that Centred’s report identifies the challenges facing young people living in rural areas and where ruralness serves as a disadvantage, and considers that it presents an important contribution to the discussion around youth mental health.
