St Aidan’s High School IET Success

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates pupils from St Aidan’s High School in Wishaw on their success at the 2022 Institution of Engineering and Technology Faraday Challenge Day; understands that the 2022 challenge was a joint effort in association with the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management and tasked young people to design a prototype that could be used in a children’s hospital to make the stay more comfortable for young patients and their families, carers and friends; recognises that the winning team from St Aidan’s High School designed a prototype "munchie box" to aid patients in deciding what to eat while in hospital and to motivate balanced eating; notes that a total of 165 events took place across the UK to host the 2021-22 IET Faraday Challenge Days with up to six teams of local school students competing at each event to find the best solution to the engineering-related challenge; further notes that the final was judged by Michelle Richmond, Director of Membership and Professional Development at the IET, Julian Young, IET President, Paul Fenton, IHEEM President, Stephen Lowndes, Technical Director at CEF and Sue Brown, Associate Development Director at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust; understands that St Aidan’s High School’s S3 IET team gave an outstanding presentation at the IHEEM Conference in Manchester in October 2022; further understands that IET aims to encourage more young people to study and consider exciting and rewarding careers in science, technology, engineering and maths by using creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills, and wishes all involved all the best for the future.
