St Andrew’s First Aid Celebrates 140 Years of Saving Lives
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates St Andrew’s First Aid on its 140th anniversary; understands that the charity was formed in 1882 as St Andrew’s Ambulance Association by doctors and businessmen in Glasgow, who showed concern for the number injuries during the rapid growth of industrial cities; highlights that St Andrew’s First Aid is Scotland’s only dedicated first aid charity; recognises that the charity’s mission is to provide everyone in Scotland with the highest standard of first aid services, skills and volunteering opportunities; acknowledges the St Andrew’s First Aid ongoing campaign to widen access to first aid in primary schools and create lifelong advocates of first aid; notes the contribution that the charity makes to supporting events across the nation, most recently mobilising volunteers at short notice to provide 24-hour coverage on the streets of Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh to ensure the safety of the public following the death of the Her Late Majesty the Queen; commends all St Andrew’s First Aid staff and volunteers on their outstanding contribution to local communities across the country, and supports them in their ongoing efforts to transform Scotland into a nation of lifesavers.
