Lodged by Carol Mochan (Scottish Labour) Standard Motion 28 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament condemns the actions of Royal Mail which, it believes, is threatening up to 10,000 job cuts from the postal service; considers that postal workers provide an essential service to millions of people in every corner of Scotland as part of the UK’s national infrastructure; further considers that a cut to jobs will not only harm these workers but the communities that they serve; believes that Royal Mail is abandoning mutually-agreed plans for modernisation, choosing instead to pursue what it sees as an asset-stripping agenda; further believes that this threatens the future of the company and is an unacceptable attack on the terms and conditions of postal workers, and calls on Royal Mail to withdraw what it sees as these threats and return to the negotiating table with what it considers a fair offer that recognises the efforts of staff and the need to address the cost of living crisis that that they are experiencing.
