Woodside Community Group Offers Free Meals to Help Families Amid Cost of Living Crisis
The motion
That the Parliament recognises Fersands and Fountain for its offering of free meals from 17 to 27 October 2022 to those in need during the cost of living crisis; notes that this came as a direct response from having a meeting with the Woodside residents who shared their struggles and discussed what support that they needed most; understands that residents are offered a free breakfast on Monday and Tuesday, with the option to pay £1 towards a cup of tea and a cake in the afternoon with a free lunch being provided during Thursday, all of which will be held at the Woodside Fountain Centre to encourage the community to get together in a warm space; further understands that the next few weeks are seen as a trial basis to see what would work best to alleviate what it understands is the strain on the Woodside community; notes that the organisation encourages people to join its pantry in partnership with Cfine and Fareshare, that there is a £3 entry fee and a £2.50 weekly fee thereafter and that, in return, people can choose up to 10 items themselves as opposed to pre-made food parcels; commends the charity for its four decades of support in the Woodside area, and wishes it all the best in delivering free meals to the vulnerable.
