Intersex Awareness Day 2022

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Intersex Awareness Day on 26 October 2022, which, itunderstands, aims to inform and educate about intersex people, their humanrights issues and the discrimination they face in daily life, and, forsome, the decision to undergo medical procedures in their time and if theywant to; understands that intersex people are those born with sexcharacteristics that differ from medical and social norms for femaleor male bodies and that up to 1.7% ofbabies are intersex; further understands that some are bornwith obvious intersex traits, while in others, it is not apparent until they reachpuberty, and some may never exhibit variations in their chromosomes; welcomesIntersex Awareness Day, and believes that it is an opportunity forintersex people to be visible and open about who they are, to ensure thatpeople do not feel alone or ashamed if they are intersex, while acknowledgingthe many challenges it considers intersex people face, including theshame and secrecy of people who do not fit with bodily norms.
