St Magnus Cathedral Success at National Church Awards 2022

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates St Magnus Cathedral on being awarded top place in the Scottish tourism category at the National Church Awards 2022; notes that the new awards run by the National Churches Trust are open to any church, chapel or meeting house in the UK and seek to recognise their heritage, conservation, architecture and most importantly those who support them; understands that the UK's most northerly cathedral was shortlisted for the Open for Visitors award in recognition of its warm welcome and outstanding visitor and user experience, which seeks to ensure that the cathedral and its history is accessible to all; further understands that cathedral custodian, Fran Flett Hollinrake, accepted the award on behalf of her colleagues at the awards ceremony in the Mercers Hall, London on 24 October; recognises that the cathedral welcomed its 100,000th visitor in July 2022 and was named as one of the best cathedrals in Europe in 2021 by respected church historian, Simon Jenkins; commends the Society of the Friends of St Magnus Cathedral for their more than 60 years of dedicated preservation of the Cathedral, and congratulates everyone involved at St Magnus Cathedral visitor services on this well-deserved accolade.
