The motion

That the Parliament applauds Lanarkshire food manufacturer, Macphie Ltd, which it understands has welcomed two Syrian refugees to its staff team after officially partnering with the Scottish Refugee Council; appreciates that, following an open day and a three-day work trial at Macphie, the partnership has seen two refugees join the ingredient manufacturer as production operatives at the firm’s recently refurbished Tannochside factory; understands that Macphie hopes to be able to integrate more refugees into its growing team in the months ahead as production at Tannochside expands; notes that the Scottish Refugee Council supports candidates with information sessions and employability training, which includes how to create a CV, interview skills, mock interviews and explaining employment rights and benefits, working in partnership with employers, supporting them throughout the process; realises that the Scottish Refugee Council has worked closely with Macphie to help adapt the company’s recruitment and induction process to make it more accessible in order to overcome some of the challenges that it considers refugees face when looking for paid employment; applauds the Scottish Refugee Council for helping 724 people find their feet, after being granted refugee status in Scotland in 2021-22, and wishes Macphie and the Scottish Refugee Council all the best with their exciting partnership going forward.
