Shetlander Reopens South Georgia Museum

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Helen Balfour from Shetland on her role as museum assistant with the South Georgia Heritage Trust; understands that she has arrived on South Georgia as part of a small all-female team to reopen the South Georgia Museum for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began; further understands that the Dundee-based charity, South Georgia Heritage Trust, works to conserve the island’s fragile ecosystem and runs the museum on behalf of the island’s government; notes that Helen has links to South Georgia through her grandfathers and great-grandfather, who worked on whaling vessels from Leith Harbour; celebrates the continuation of links between Shetland and South Georgia through her work, and wishes Helen and her team every success with the tourist season.
