Memorial Event in the Borders for People Bereaved by Suicide
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the upcoming fourth annual Memorial Event for people in the Scottish Borders who have lost a loved one to suicide, which will take place on International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day on 19 November 2022 at Haining House, Selkirk; understands that the event will be hosted by the After A Suicide Working Group, supported by NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council, with anyone who has lost a family member, friend or colleague to suicide welcome to attend; notes that the event will see people invited to come together on a walk around Haining Loch to the Clootie Tree, which was dedicated in 2019 to people who had died by suicide and welcomes people to tie a ribbon or leave a memorial pebble at the tree in their loved one’s memory, with a craft session to decorate memorial pebbles being held prior to the event on 10 November at Selkirk Rugby Club; believes that every suicide is a tragedy, with far reaching impact on those left behind, and that work must continue to prevent these deaths, and encourages anyone affected to reach out to the support services available such as the Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide national helpline on 0300 111 5065, Samaritans on 116 123 or Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87.
