The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges Befriending Week 2022, which runs from 1 to 7 November and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year; understands that Befriending Week seeks to raise awareness about how befriending can help create connections among communities, be that face-to-face or at a distance; further understands that 45% of adults in Scotland feel isolated from others some or all of the time, and that four in 10 adults in Scotland say they sometimes or often feel lonely in a group of people they know; acknowledges how befriending is helping communities overcome various challenges by creating connections based on support, advice and encouragement; appreciates that many befriending organisations continue to face difficulties due to the cost of living, changing rules and restrictions, and the increasing demand and complexity of services, and thanks befrienders and staff for their valuable contributions to communities and continued commitment to letting befriendees know how important they are.
