The Maryhill Hub Mural

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the young people and families from across the Maryhill area who worked with youth organisation North United Communities to create a stunning outdoor mural at the Maryhill Hub in the Wyndford estate; notes that the mural, spanning 695 bricks, depicts the experience, feelings, emotions and imagination of many young people during COVID-19 and as restrictions eventually began to ease; further notes that the artwork includes themes such as cute animals, anime inspired characters and emoji expressions of joy and sadness; thanks the young people and their families for their commitment and investment in the project ably facilitated by community artist Blair Thomson, and supported by the Maryhill Hub staff team and steering group with funding secured from Glasgow City Council, and praises what it sees as the very real community effort to complete the mural with much of the work taking place between June and August 2022 and involving over 100 members of the local community, with several young people being regular contributors to the project from concept to completion including Kyle Gilchrist, Amine Dinc, Jay Shanley, Andrew Hamilton and Lucy Jackson.
