The motion

That the Parliament congratulates St Andrews High School in Coatbridge on recently achieving a Gold: Rights Respecting Schools Award from UNICEF UK; understands that gold is the third and highest level of the award, which is accorded to schools who have wholly embedded the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into their practice, culture and policies; further understands that the award requires schools to actively implement strategies to empower their pupils as individuals, citizens and advocates; notes that St Andrews High is just the 20th school in Scotland to reach this level of accreditation; recognises what it sees as the positive impact of the programme, with reported improvements for pupils both academically and behaviourally, including decreased bullying found in rights respecting schools; shares the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation that the awards seek to imbue in pupils, and affirms what it sees as the importance of the UNCRC for children in Scotland.
