Calls for UK Government to Introduce a VAT Exemption for Defibrillators
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Irish government will introduce a VAT exemption on defibrillators from the start of 2023; understands that every second counts following a cardiac arrest and therefore believes that the larger the network of defibrillators in communities, the more lives will be saved; considers that this reduction in cost to businesses, community groups and individuals will have a significant impact on the number of defibrillators purchased across the country; understands that the campaign to scrap VAT on defibrillators has been supported by members of all parties in the Scottish Parliament; further understands that this campaign has been backed by the Scottish Government, and calls on the UK Government to follow the lead of the Irish government and introduce a VAT exemption for defibrillators.
