The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 14 November marks the start of Road Safety Week 2022; notes that the annual initiative, which seeks to raise awareness of road safety issues, began in 1997, and is organised by charity, Brake; understands that Road Safety Week is Brake's biggest annual road safety campaign, which sees thousands of schools, organisations and communities get involved to shout out for the right to make safe and healthy journeys every day; notes that the theme of Road Safety Week 2022 is Safe Roads for All; believes that every life on the roads matters, and that every death and injury is preventable; understands that more than 1.3 million people die on roads every year and that road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young people worldwide, with more than six children killed or seriously injured on roads every day in the UK; commends the work of Brake and other safety charities to draw attention to this important issue, the efforts of volunteers and campaigners across Scotland, and the work of the emergency services and road safety professionals in reducing casualties and caring for those impacted by road incidents, and wishes everyone involved in Road Safety Week 2022 every success.
