John Watson Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates John Watson of Bishopbriggs-based John S L Watson Haulage, also known as Clamshell Hire, on receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from Transport News; commends the Watson family for their entrepreneurship and tenacity, spanning almost 55 years; delights that John and Susan Watson built this successful business from John’s humble childhood dream to own and drive a lorry, purchasing their first HGV in 1968; acknowledges the dedication, investment and time given by their children, Angela, Alex, Jimmy and Lorna in strengthening the family business through both buoyant and challenging economic times; delights at the well-established Huntershill Village, a business community on the land adjacent to the hauliers’ yard, now home to around 60 traders and the popular Thomas Muir Coffee Shop and Gift Shop; warmly acknowledges the support of John’s parents, May and Jimmy, who, it understands, encouraged and nurtured his love of the industry from an early age, and his sister Netta, adding her secretarial support in the early days, and wishes John and his family continued fulfilment and success at John S L Watson Haulage/ Clamshell Hire and Huntershill Village as the dreams of the next generation are added to those that have already been realised.
