Aberdeen FC Community Trust

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen FC Community Trust for helping thousands of children across the north east; understands that, based on the Trust’s latest annual report, 4,208 school children have been engaged by the charity, leading to increased school attendance and improved behaviour due to the alternative timetable developed to help pupils who struggle in the classroom; notes that 119 pupils achieved SQA qualifications through the charity; further notes that pupils from 17 primary schools and seven secondary schools have been involved and every S1 pupil in three secondary schools completed adolescent mental wellbeing learning; commends the charity for providing 2,091 meals to primary school children; understands that 1,814 meals were donated to help feed people in Aberdeen and that £5,000 was donated to help children at a Ukrainian orphanage; further understands that since the charity began in 2014 it has been focusing on encouraging young people to engage in education, supporting a variety of subject areas including numeracy, literacy and science; notes that the Trust also carried out Kick Off Your Career, which is a six-week employability SQA-accredited course focused on helping people at risk of long-term unemployment; commends the role of the Trust in supporting vulnerable people and children, by using football as a positive driver of community engagement, and passes on its best wishes to all involved for continued success in the future.
