Saltcoats’ Wee Fish Van Crowned Micro Business of the Year at the Scottish Women's Awards
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Bernadette MacKenzie from Saltcoats, owner of Ayrshire's Wee Fish Van, on being crowned Micro Business of the Year at the 2022 Scottish Women's Awards; understands that the awards, which were held in Glasgow’s Marriott Hotel on 27 October, recognise and celebrate Scottish female talent; notes that the mobile wee fish van can be found "tooting around" the Three Towns and across North Ayrshire selling fresh local fish and seafood; is aware that Bernadette set up her business during the COVID-19 pandemic in December 2020 after being made redundant from her previous job as a long-haul air hostess; acknowledges that she bought her now iconic van with her redundancy money; recognises that she has been able to count on the support and knowledge of her husband, Douglas, who is a trawlerman on fishing boats; understands that Bernadette believes that the personal touch of her small business contributed to her triumph, and wishes Bernadette and her employees every possible success in their future endeavours.
