The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Team Jak on the opening of Jak’s Den in Aberdeen on 28 October 2022; understands that the new facility allows Team Jak to expand on the existing support which it currently provides to 59 families who have a child who has been diagnosed with cancer for over five years; notes that Team Jak aim to ease the fear, confusion and loneliness of a cancer diagnosis or bereavement, by providing practical, social and emotional support to children and young people with cancer and related illnesses between the ages of zero and 25, their families, friends and those bereaved or children bereaved of someone from cancer; understands that Team Jak was the idea of teenager, Jak Trueman, whose life was sadly cut short following a short and aggressive battle with a rare form of blood cancer; further understands that Jak did not want other children or families to face the isolation and fear tackled daily following diagnosis and during treatment and set out clear aims on how to provide support for young people, their families and friends; welcomes the opening of Team Jak’s new facilities in Aberdeen, which, it understands, will provide help and support to many children and young people as well as their families; notes what it sees as the continued dedication and commitment of the staff and volunteers at Team Jak to improve the lives of children and young people with cancer, their families and friends as well as those bereaved, and wishes everyone at Team Jak all the best for the future.
