Uddingston Hockey Club Crowned Euro Hockey Club of the Year for the Second Time

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Uddingston Hockey Club on being confirmed as the 2022 Euro Hockey Club of the Year in the large club category, and understands that it is the first club ever to receive the Club of the Year honour twice, having won the Euro Hockey crown in the medium-sized club category in 2015; understands that the Club is also Gold-accredited with both Scottish Hockey and Sports Scotland; notes that since the Club won its initial honour in 2015, it has further developed its service offering to ensure the Club’s sustainability, with a particular focus on expanding hockey facilities, culminating in hosting a Euro Hockey qualifier tournament in 2022, as well as community engagement and youth development; recognises the positive impact it believes that the Club is having on the local community through forging innovative community partnerships with more than 15 organisations, including the Uddingston Men’s Shed, the Harvest Church Group and Women’s Aid, as well as providing access to hockey at no cost to a large number of South Lanarkshire schoolchildren; further recognises the Club’s focus on supporting families during the current cost of living crisis with projects that include supporting food parcel deliveries and operating a hockey equipment "kit bank"; applauds the large number of volunteers that support the Club, which has doubled its membership over the past three years, as well as the Club itself for its volunteer reward scheme through which, it understands, volunteers earn credit for every hour they help out, with the credit able to be spent within the Club, and wishes Uddingston Hockey Club continued sporting and community success.
