Qatar Human Rights Abuses

The motion

That the Parliament expresses its concern regarding the reported human rights abuses by the Qatari authorities, which, it considers, have gone unchecked by FIFA as the World Cup 2022 begins on 20 November 2022; welcomes the publication of Human Rights Guide for Reporters: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, by the Human Rights Watch; considers that there are serious concerns over workers' rights and the number of migrant worker deaths; further considers that there is very little data available on the number of migrant deaths, with the International Labour Organization (ILO) reporting that there were 50 work-related deaths in 2020 alone; notes the serious concerns regarding LGBT people who have reportedly been subjected to physical and sexual assault and harassment at the hands of the Qatari authorities; understands that women are heavily discriminated against in Qatar, with their freedoms strictly curtailed, and calls on FIFA to take human and workers' rights seriously for this and future tournaments.
